High-scoring Spurs, Wolves meet in Alamo City

(SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of high-scoring Western Conference inhabitants collide Sunday in the Alamo City, as the San Antonio Spurs battle the Minnesota Timberwolves at the AT&T Center.

The Timberwolves are second in the NBA with 107.6 points per game and the Spurs aren't too far off with 104.8 ppg. The Wolves are allowing 102.4 ppg and will face a San Antonio squad that has posted 100 or more points in seven straight games and is giving up only 96.7 ppg.

San Antonio has won three in a row and six of its last seven, including Wednesday's 112-90 victory over the rival Dallas Mavericks. Tony Parker finished with 25 points and seven assists and Tim Duncan registered his 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Spurs top reserve Manu Ginobili missed the Dallas game with a leg issue and is questionable Sunday.

"That is why they are the Spurs. ... They are used to winning with key players out," Mavs forward Brandan Wright said.

Marco Belinelli scored 17 points off the bench for the Spurs, who improved to 14-5 at home and exploded for 37 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the third quarter. The Spurs held Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki to eight points on 3-of-14 shooting and have won seven in a row against Dallas.

San Antonio is now a half-game ahead of Oklahoma City for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Minnesota has alternated wins and losses over its last seven games and is coming off Friday's 119-92 victory versus the Charlotte Bobcats. Nikola Pekovic scored 26 points and Kevin Love added 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Wolves, who got 19 points from Kevin Martin and shot 54.5 percent.

"He (Nikola Pekovic) played really well. He got great position and we really had good ball movement tonight. The ball really didn't stop. Pek was doing a great job at making (Al) Jefferson work," said Wolves coach Rick Adelman.

The T'Wolves held a 68-48 lead at halftime and made 59 percent of their shots in the first half. Their largest lead of the night was 88-57.

Minnesota will shoot for its third straight win on the road and has a 7-11 mark away from the Target Center. It is 12-2 this season when allowing less than 100 points, but 0-7 when failing to reach that mark.

The Wolves haven't been above .500 since Nov. 25 and suffered a 117-110 loss at San Antonio on Dec. 13. The Spurs are 25-5 in the last 30 meetings with Minnesota and 17-1 in the previous 18 matchups at home.
