Norfolk State football is hoping a challenging non-conference schedule will pay off within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 2014.
"We certainly have a very demanding schedule in 2014," NSU coach Pete Adrian said in announcing the 12-game schedule on Wednesday. "I think our non- conference schedule should be as difficult as anyone in the FCS. But I know our players are looking forward to the challenges that await us."
The Spartans, who finished 3-9 this past season, will open their 2014 schedule at Maine on Aug. 30, host Liberty on Sept. 6 and then visit William & Mary on Sept. 13 and FBS Buffalo on Sept. 20. Their four non-conference opponents went a combined 33-17 this past season.
NSU will open MEAC play by hosting Morgan State on Sept. 27. Its other conference home games are against Delaware State (Oct. 11) on Homecoming, defending champion Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 8) and North Carolina Central (Nov. 15).
The Spartans will visit conference opponents Savannah State (Oct. 4), Hampton (Oct. 18), Florida A&M (Nov. 1) and South Carolina State (Nov. 22).
