Cape Girardeau, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College head football coach Sherard Poteete was named offensive coordinator on new coach Tom Matukewicz's staff at Southeast Missouri on Monday.

Poteete, 35, went 3-6 in his one season leading Northeastern A&M, including 1-5 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. His team finished 21st in the nation in total yards (393.6 ypg).

"We are very excited to hire a coach and person of Sherard's caliber," Matukewicz said. "I knew him as a player and a coach and he has a lot of experience. Our offense will be in good hands."

Prior to coaching at NEO, Poteete spent the 2010-12 seasons as offensive coordinator at Trinity Valley Community College and the 2004-09 seasons at his alma mater, Louisiana College, including his final three seasons as offensive coordinator.

Southeast Missouri finished 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference this past season.
