Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Jiri Tlusty on injured reserve after he underwent an emergency appendectomy on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Tlusty is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks of action. He has six goals and four assists in 37 games this season.

The Hurricanes recalled forward Zach Boychuk from Charlotte of the American Hockey League to fill the roster spot. Boychuk earned an assist during his only NHL game this season, a 5-3 Carolina victory against San Jose on Dec. 6.

Later Friday, the club placed defenseman Jay Harrison on IR due to a concussion suffered against Tampa Bay last Saturday and activated goaltender Anton Khudobin (ankle) from IR and assigned him to Charlotte for a conditioning stint.
