Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerry Mack has become the third-youngest head football coach in Division I after taking the reins of North Carolina Central's program on Thursday.
Mack, 33 (born Oct. 24, 1980) is only older than Davidson's Paul Nichols, 32 (born Jan. 25, 1981), and Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck of Western Michigan, 33 (born Nov. 29, 1980).
Mack has spent the last two seasons as the wide receivers coach at South Alabama. He has 10 years of coaching experience at six schools, including on two conference championship teams.
The 2003 graduate of Arkansas State also has coached at Delta State (graduate assistant, 2004-05), Jackson State (wide receivers/tight ends, 2006-07), Central Arkansas (passing game coordinator/wide receivers, 2008-09), Arkansas- Pine Bluff (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks, 2010) and Memphis (wide receivers, 2011).
He is a native of Memphis.
North Carolina Central fired Henry Frazier III after two seasons in August following his second arrest in 16 months.
Dwayne Foster served as the interim head coach this season as North Carolina Central finished 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
