Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies officially announced on Wednesday the signing of one-time 19-game winner Roberto Hernandez to a 2014 contract worth $4.5 million.
The deal also includes performance and award bonuses.
Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, went 6-13 with a 4.89 earned run average in 32 games (24 starts) for the Tampa Bay Rays last season.
The 33-year-old right-hander compiled a 53-69 record with a 4.64 ERA during a seven-year stint with the Cleveland Indians (2006-12). He finished fourth in the AL Cy Young Award voting in 2007 after going 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA.
To make room for Hernandez on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated catcher Sebastian Valle for assignment.
