Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins signed third baseman Casey McGehee to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

McGehee, 31, returns to the majors after a one-year stint in Japan, where he batted .292 with 28 homers and 93 RBI in 144 games for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in the Pacific League. He helped the Golden Eagles to their first Japan Series championship.

The California native looked to be an emerging star after hitting .285 with 23 homers and 104 RBI for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2010. His numbers declined the following year, however, and the Brewers wound up trading him to Pittsburgh after the season. He split the 2012 campaign between the Pirates and New York Yankees.

McGehee broke into the majors with the Chicago Cubs in 2008. The Brewers selected him off waivers in October of that year.
