Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Kris Letang on injured reserve because of an undisclosed problem.
Letang missed Saturday's game against Detroit. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said he suffered an upper body injury during Friday's game against New Jersey.
In 24 games this season, Letang has six goals and five assists for 11 points. He missed the first nine games with a lower body injury.
The Penguins recalled defenseman Philip Samuelsson from their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Samuelsson, the son of former Pens blueliner Ulf, was a second-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Pittsburgh also recalled forward Harry Zolnierczyk from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with forward Evgeni Malkin's status unclear following an injury Saturday.
