Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies have signed first baseman Justin Morneau to a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2016.
The Denver Post indicated last week that the deal will pay the former AL MVP just under $13 million.
Morneau, who spent the first 10 1/2 seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins before he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates late last season, will have the tall task of replacing long-time Rockies first baseman Todd Helton.
Over 11 seasons in the majors, the Canadian slugger has batted .277 with 221 homers and 863 RBI.
