Durban, South Africa (SportsNetwork.com) - The European Tour announced Friday that next week's Nelson Mandela Championship will still be held, but it will start a day earlier than originally scheduled.

The announcement comes one day after the passing of former South African president and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela. With the state funeral for Mandela being held Sunday, Dec. 15, the tournament will start Wednesday and conclude Saturday, allowing four rounds to be completed a day prior to the service.

The tournament, now in its second year, will continue to honor Mandela's charity contributions through the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

Scott Jamieson defeated Steve Webster in a playoff to win the title last year. Jamieson is scheduled to defend his title.
