Spurs hit the road to battle Wolves

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs are back on the road and will try to hand the hosting Minnesota Timberwolves a loss Wednesday at Target Center.

After having an 11-game winning streak stopped at Oklahoma City a week ago, the Spurs have won two of their last three games, including a 102-100 decision versus the Atlanta Hawks Monday in the Alamo City.

Spurs forward Tim Duncan hit the game-winning shot with just fourth-tenths of a second remaining in the game and finished with 23 points and 21 rebounds. He made 10-of-15 shots and added two blocks to his night.

"(Duncan) did a great job," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "We were having a tough night in a lot of ways and he was superb."

Boris Diaw led San Antonio's bench with 16 points and the reserves ended with a 46-21 advantage. Tony Parker had 15 points and seven assists, Marco Belinelli chipped in 13 off the bench and Tiago Splitter netted 11 for the Spurs, who shot 53.8 percent, but committed 19 turnovers.

There were 20 lead changes and 17 ties in the game.

San Antonio is 7-2 as the guest this season and is tied with Portland for the most wins (15) in the Western Conference.

Minnesota is coming off Sunday's 113-103 loss at Oklahoma City, as Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic scored 24 and 22 points, respectively. Pekovic grabbed 10 rebounds and Wolves star Kevin Love added 16 points and 12 boards.

Minnesota lost even though it posted 20 points off 15 OKC turnovers and was outscored by a 35-20 margin in the fourth quarter. Thunder star Kevin Durant had his fourth triple-double of 32 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

"Fourth quarter, we just went with that small lineup and had some miscommunication and they kind of took control of the game then," Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman said.

Minnesota had an 83-78 edge after three quarters and fell to 9-2 when leading or tied following 36 minutes.

The Timberwolves are 6-3 at home and lost its previous game at Target Center, 117-110 versus Denver last Wednesday. They will also welcome Miami to town on this challenging stretch of two games. San Antonio and Miami, of course, played in last season's NBA Finals.

The Wolves and Spurs split four meetings a season ago and will play three times in 2013-14. San Antonio has won 19 of the last 23 overall meetings in this series, but has dropped three of four contests in the Twin Cities.
