Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis was held out of Wednesday night's game against Minnesota because of soreness in his left index finger.

The former No. 1 draft pick dislocated the finger near the end of Tuesday's win over Cleveland.

Pelicans coach Monty Williams said keeping Davis out of the lineup "just makes sense."

"We could've held him out last night, but he was so adamant about playing that I let him go," Williams said, according to the team's website. "Now we have to be his brains and make sure he doesn't hurt his finger more. But he should be ready for our next game."

Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and an NBA-best 3.3 blocks in 37 games this season. He missed seven games in December with a broken left hand.
