Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Steelers placed center Fernando Velasco on injured reserve Saturday due to an Achilles injury.
Velasco was signed by the Steelers on Sept. 9 after starting center Maurkice Pouncey tore the MCL and ACL in his right knee during Pittsburgh's first game of the season.
Velasco started the team's next 11 games after Pouncey's injury, but was injured during Pittsburgh's Thanksgiving night loss at Baltimore.
Also on Saturday, the Steelers released cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and signed offensive tackle Rashad Butler and center Eric Olsen.
Butler has played in 50 games with four career starts, while Olsen has played in 17 games with four starts.
