SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says left tack Zack Martin will leave a legacy for future Fighting Irish linemen to follow.
Kelly says the two-time team captain has been a mentor who has shown younger players the proper way to do things. The 6-foot-4, 308-pound graduate student from Indianapolis will set a school record by making his 51st straight start when No. 25 Notre Dame (8-3) plays at eighth-ranked Stanford (9-2). He's started every game for the Irish since Kelly arrived four years ago.
Martin says he doesn't recall ever missing a start all the way back through grade school. He credits his iron-man streak in college to hard work in the weight room, even during the season, and a little bit of luck.
