FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Geno Smith says he's not feeling as though the New York Jets are shying away from allowing their rookie quarterback to throw passes downfield.
Smith, struggling mightily for the past month, has been leading an offense that has appeared to become increasingly conservative lately. Smith has one touchdown and 10 interceptions in his past six games, and hasn't completed more than nine passes in any of his past three outings.
Smith says Wednesday it's "always fun" taking shots down the field, but adds that there are several reasons for the Jets not doing so as often as they did early. He insists the team, himself included, just needs to execute better, even with defenses focusing on taking away big plays.
