PARAMUS, N.J. – Michael Weiner had been remembered for a life lived to the fullest during a 35-minute funeral service for the baseball players' union leader.
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, Boston Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner, Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, incoming union head Tony Clark and former union head Donald Fehr were among the hundreds of people at Sunday's service. Noting Weiner's informal style, Rabbi Mary Zamore invited the overflow crowd to sit on the floor.
Weiner died Thursday at age 51, 15 months after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He was eulogized by his wife, Diane Margolin.
