White Sox nab INF Elmore off waivers

Chicago, IL ( - The Chicago White Sox have claimed infielder Jake Elmore off waivers from the Houston Astros, the team announced Wednesday.

Elmore split last season between the Astros and Triple-A Oklahoma City, batting .242 with two home runs and six RBI over 52 games in the majors and .299 with five homers, 30 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 70 Pacific Coast League contests.

The 26-year-old offers versatility to his new team, having spent time at all nine positions with Houston that included a scoreless inning of relief in a game against Texas on Aug. 19.

Elmore broke into the majors with Arizona in 2012 prior to being awarded to the Astros off waivers on Nov. 1 of that year. He owns a .223 average over 82 overall major league games.

The White Sox also added outfielder Trayce Thompson and infielder Carlos Sanchez to the 40-man roster. The duo entered last season ranked second and third, respectively, among Chicago's prospects by
