Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders have placed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov on injured reserve because of a groin injury.

Nabokov was hurt during Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings. A timetable for his return was not revealed, but Islanders coach Jack Capuano on Saturday indicated it could be a "couple of weeks."

The 38-year-old veteran is 5-5-3 with a 3.30 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage in 14 games this season.

Kevin Poulin will assume the starter's role, while the Islanders on Monday recalled netminder Anders Nilsson from their American Hockey League affiliate in Bridgeport.
