College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Maryland has signed women's basketball coach Brenda Frese to a multi-year extension that aims to keep her on the bench through at least 2021.
The deal, which could run for an additional four years through 2025, was announced Friday.
"Coach Frese has been the driving force in putting Maryland women's basketball in a position of national prominence during her time here in College Park," said Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson. "Her 2006 national title, ACC dominance and consistent top recruiting classes have made Maryland a contender year after year."
Frese was hired in April 2002 and is 280-81 as coach of the Terrapins. She led them to an overtime win against Duke in the 2006 national championship game and has taken them to five Sweet 16s and four Elite Eights in the women's tournament.
