Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended one game for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the team announced Friday.

Bowe was arrested for speeding and marijuana possession on Nov. 10, 2013. He pled guilty in April to two lesser charges and paid $610 in fines and court costs.

"I am extremely sorry that I can't be on the field for the first game of the 2014 season because I made an error in judgment," Bowe said in a statement released by the NFL Players Association.

"I take responsibility for my mistake, and it will not happen again. I hope that my teammates, coaches, and Chiefs fans accept my sincere apology. I will be supporting my teammates in week one, and I cannot wait to get back on the field to help us win in week two and beyond as we work towards our goal of winning the Super Bowl."

Bowe, who has been dealing with a finger injury, will miss the regular-season opener against the Titans. He can continue to practice and play in the preseason.

The 29-year-old Bowe was previously suspended four games for violating the PED policy in 2009.

Bowe had one of his worst seasons in 2013, catching 57 passes for 673 yards and five touchdowns.
