With Colorado State trailing Nevada by a point late in the third quarter, Kapri Bibbs decided to take things over.
He finished with the best game by an FBS running back all season.
Bibbs rushed for a school-record 312 yards and four touchdowns Saturday as the Rams overwhelmed the Wolf Pack 38-17. Bibbs ran for scores of 59, 1 and 85 yards to help Colorado State overcome a 17-16 deficit and nearly overtake Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch (316 yards) for the top single-game rushing effort of the year.
Bibbs also helped the Rams move within a win of bowl eligibility with two games left — but he wasn't the only player to shine this weekend.
Here are five of the more memorable efforts in college football during the second weekend of November:
JOHNNY ENCORE: Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel isn't being talked about much in regards to the Heisman Trophy. But last year's winner is, at least statistically, having a better season than he had in 2012. Manziel threw for 446 yards and five touchdowns — albeit with three picks — in a 51-41 win over Mississippi State. Manziel now has 31 TD passes after throwing 26 last season, and his completion rate is up five points to 73 percent. Manziel has 3,313 yards and is on pace to top 4,000 yards by the end of the year. Of course, the big difference in 2013 is that Manziel lost to No. 1 Alabama in September after beating the Tide on the road a year ago.
HOOSIER HYSTERIA: The Indiana-Illinois game produced a 400-yard passer, a 200-yard receiver and a 200-yard rusher. Guess who won? Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase threw for 450 yards, including 224 to Steve Hull. But the Hooisers ran for 367 yards — led by 215 from Tevin Coleman and 150 from Stephen Houston — and rolled to a 52-35 win. It was the 19th straight Big Ten loss for Illinois, which gave up 650 yards overall.
DRE DAY: Boston College's Andre Williams took over the national rushing lead with a monster effort in a 48-34 win over New Mexico State. Williams ran for 295 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries and now has 1,471 yards. Williams, a senior, had never rushed for more than 584 yards until this season. Western Kentucky's Antonio Andrews (1,407) is second nationally, followed by Bishop Sankey (1,305) of Washington, Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey (1,221) and Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah (1,213).
PURDON'T: Purdue did something on Saturday that it hadn't done since Sept. 28: cross an opponent's 20-yard line. Not only that, but the Boilermakers scored a pair of touchdowns against visiting Iowa after being shut out in back-to-back games. Alas it didn't matter, as the Hawkeyes cruised to a 38-14 win to gain bowl eligibility after winning just four games in 2012.
EXTRA POINTS: Oregon State's Sean Mannion still leads the nation with 3,540 yards passing, but Fresno State's Derek Carr is inching closer to the lead. Carr threw for 360 yards and four TDs as the Bulldogs pounded Wyoming 48-10. He has 3,421 yards, 32 touchdowns against just picks — including 13 TDs and zero interceptions in his last four games. ... SMU's Garrett Gilbert has thrown for 941 yards in his last two games. ... Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds had 226 yards rushing and four TDs in a 42-28 win over Hawaii. ... Louisville's Marcus Smith has 4.5 sacks in his last two games and is now first in the country with 10.5.
