(SportsNetwork.com) - Ernie Els opted to withdraw from Tiger Woods' World Challenge on Monday and will instead play the Nedbank Challenge.
Els has never played in Woods' World Challenge. He will play for a record 17th time at the Nedbank Challenge.
The Nedbank has increased its field to 30 players. Els has won that event three times and has won the most money in tournament history.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back and playing such a special event. It was actually a family decision - Liezl, Samantha and Ben - are with me for a short while and it made a lot of sense to compete at Sun City," said the South African Els.
Woods, and new title sponsor Northwestern Mutual, moved quickly to replace Els with Dustin Johnson, who recently won the WGC - HSBC Champions.
