Braves give McCann qualifying offer

Atlanta, GA – Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves gave a qualifying offer to catcher Brian McCann for the 2014 season on Monday.

McCann has until next Monday to accept or decline the one-year, $14.1 million tender. If the offer is declined and McCann chooses to sign with another team, the Braves will receive a compensatory pick between the first and second rounds of next June's First-Year Player Draft.

McCann just finished his ninth season in the majors, all with the Braves, and batted .256 with 20 home runs and 57 RBI in 102 games.

The 29-year-old is a career .277 batter with 176 home runs and 661 RBI. He has hit at least 20 home runs in each of the last six seasons, and seven overall.

Also on Monday, the Braves declined to exercise the contract option for outfielder Reed Johnson, who batted .256 with one home run and 15 RBI over 117 games with the team over the past two seasons.
