Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Humberto Suazo netted a brace to lead Montrerrey to a 3-0 road victory against Veracruz on Saturday.
Suazo opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Neri Cardozo doubled Monterrey's advantage one minute prior to halftime.
Monterrey continued its dominance after the restart as Suazo's goal in the 79th minute put the win beyond any doubt, lifting the club to 17 points on the season where it sits two points back of Veracruz.
Third-place Cruz Azul edged Morelia, 1-0, behind a goal from Joao Rojas to climb to 28 points on the season while Juninho and Carlos Pena Rodriguez exchanged goals in Leon's 1-1 draw at Tigres, and Jaguares closed out Saturday's Mexican league slate with a 2-1 victory over Santos.
On Sunday, Omar Bravo and Pablo Velazquez scored 10 minutes apart to see Atlas and Toluca split the points in a 1-1 draw, Abraham Carreno netted a stoppage- time penalty to help Pachuca get a point from a 1-1 draw with Puebla and Rafael Marquez Lugo produced the lone goal in Guadalajara's 1-0 defeat of UNAM.
And on Friday, Tijuana stormed to a 4-1 victory over Atlante while America was held to a 0-0 by Queretaro.
