Matt Kenseth will be right behind the only man in front of him in the Sprint Cup championship points race when the green flag drops at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday.
Jimmie Johnson has a four-point lead with four races left. He's starting second, and Kenseth is starting fourth.
Kenseth would love to be that close at the finish, too.
The tricky half-mile in southwest Virginia is among Johnson's best tracks, and one Kenseth still hasn't mastered in 27 career races. Johnson has eight victories at Martinsville while Kenseth has none.
Kenseth says a better-than-normal showing in the spring gives him hope. He led 96 laps, and that's more than he'd led in his previous 26 visits combined.
Yet he managed just a 14th-place finish.
Johnson? He won.
