MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Danica Patrick backed into Turn 2 at Martinsville Speedway during Friday's first practice and sustained damage to the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevy.
The team opted to pull out the backup car after Patrick ran 35 laps and was 36th-fastest on the speed chart with a lap of 95.540 mph.
Patrick has one start at the half-mile track, finishing 12th at Martinsville in April. In the running for Sprint Cup rookie of the year, Patrick is 28th in the points standings.
Twenty minutes later, Patrick's boyfriend and fellow rookie of the year contender Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wrecked his primary car between Turns 1 and 2. The bad news? Stenhouse was second-fastest in first practice at the time of the crash with a lap of 98.241 mph.
