Matt Kenseth says a tire problem caused him to crash during testing at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday.

Kenseth says it's always a concern when a tire blows apart for no reason after only nine laps.

Kenseth is second in the race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup title, trailing Jimmie Johnson by four points with four races left in the season. Kenseth was the points leader before finishing 20th at Talladega last weekend.

The top eight drivers in the points standings are among the 16 cars from five teams testing at the 1½-mile, high-banked Texas track.

Asked if he wrecked the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota he planned to race at Texas on Nov. 2, Kenseth said that car is "at home safe ready to get to the track."
