New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Colorado Avalanche left wing Cody McLeod faces a suspension after an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for his boarding penalty from Thursday.

In-person hearings are required under the collective bargaining agreement for any suspension that can exceed five games.

McLeod was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for his hit on Detroit's Niklas Kronwall just over two minutes into Thursday's game.

Kronwall went into the corner to play a dump-in and was slammed into the boards by McLeod. Kronwall remained on the ice and was moving before being taken off on a stretcher.

Detroit later said that Kronwall had some cuts near his right ear and had a concussion.
