Vienna, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seeds and former champions Jo- Wilfried Tsonga and Tommy Haas posted second-round wins Thursday at the Erste Bank Open tennis tournament.

The 2011 titlist Tsonga got past German Daniel Brands 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, while the 35-year-old Haas handled 25-year-old Slovakian qualifier Miloslav Mecir 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) on the indoor courts at Wiener Stadthalle. Mecir is the son of former ATP standout and former world No. 4, Miloslav Mecir.

In other action involving seeds, No. 3 Fabio Fognini of Italy beat Pole Lukasz Kubot 7-5, 6-2, Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans ousted No. 4 Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), and Dutchman Robin Haase vanquished No. 7 Vasek Pospisil of Canada 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.

One other second-rounder saw Austrian wild card Dominic Thiem drill Czech lucky loser Jaroslav Pospisil 6-1, 6-1.

Friday's quarterfinals will pit Tsonga against Thiem, Haas versus fifth-seeded Radek Stepanek, Fognini against Haase, and eighth-seeded Czech Lukas Rosol versus Bemelmans.

The winner of this $675,000 event will earn $122,000.
