Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall left Thursday's game against the Colorado Avalanche on a stretcher after a vicious hit in the corner boards.
Kronwall went into the corner to play a dump-in and was slammed into the boards by Cody McLeod.
Kronwall was moving as he laid on the ice, and was eventually taken off on a stretcher.
McLeod was assessed a five-minute major for boarding along with a game misconduct.
The hit occurred 2:13 into the game.
Detroit later said that Kronwall had some cuts near his right ear and had a concussion. He will be re-evaluated on Friday.
