Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran safety Will Allen on Thursday.

Allen spent the 2010-12 seasons with the Steelers, playing in 46 games and recording 55 combined tackles over that span.

He was with the Dallas Cowboys for the first five games of 2013, recording an interception and nine combined tackles before being released on Wednesday.

Allen was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. He has played in 135 career games (35 starts) and five postseason contests.

To make room on the roster, the Steelers placed safety DaMon Cromartie-Smith on the team's Waived/Injured List.
