Matthews back at linebacker for Packers, plans to play against Lions after resting hamstring

The Packers' bye week did wonders for Clay Matthews and his sore hamstring.

The Pro Bowl linebacker plans on playing Sunday when Green Bay hosts the Detroit Lions in a key early-season NFC North game.

Matthews left the Packers loss to the Bengals two weeks ago with the injury. He was limited Wednesday in practice but back to full speed on Thursday.

And he's back just in time to face a Lions offense that's clicking behind running back Reggie Bush and quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Coach Mike McCarthy said he was optimistic that Matthews would be ready for Sunday. The long-haired sack-master went a step further later Thursday and said he would be on the Lambeau Field turf Sunday.

Matthews missed four games last year with a hamstring injury.
