Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw will start against Kentucky on Saturday despite spraining his right shoulder last week against UCF, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said.
"Looks like Connor is going to be fine," Spurrier said Wednesday. "He was throwing the ball very well today. So it looks like he'll be the starter."
Spurrier had said Shaw could miss 2-3 weeks after the senior went down in the first quarter last Saturday.
Instead, Shaw appears ready to start, although Spurrier said redshirt junior Dylan Thompson will also play after taking over for Shaw during the UCF game and leading the Gamecocks to a win.
Thompson will "probably go in about the third or fourth possession, somewhere around there," Spurrier said.
"They both deserve to play," the coach said. "We'll send them both out there and go from there."
Shaw has passed for 665 yards and six touchdowns this season without throwing an interception for the 13th-ranked Gamecocks (3-1). Thompson has thrown for 365 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
