Texas coach Mack Brown has had quite the trying week.

He and the Longhorns simply can't afford to lose at Iowa State on Thursday night.

Longhorns legend Earl Campbell suggested over the weekend that it was time for the school to move on. Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds, perhaps Brown's most ardent supporter, announced Tuesday that he's retiring in 2014.

It's under that cloud that Brown brings the Longhorns (2-2, 1-0 Big 12) to Ames for a matchup against the rebuilding Cyclones (1-2, 0-1).

Texas is coming off a 31-21 win over Kansas State. Iowa State opens Big 12 play after beating Tulsa on the road 38-21 for its first win.
