The New York Knicks think they have enough scoring to overcome the absences of J.R. Smith and Amare Stoudemire.

Both players had offseason knee surgery and may not be ready for the start of the season. Smith won't play even if healthy, because he faces a five-game NBA suspension for violating the anti-drug program, and Stoudemire will play restricted minutes once he's back.

They were the Knicks' top two reserves last season, combining for 32 points per game on a 54-win team. Without them, the Knicks will need to find players who can score beyond league scoring champion Carmelo Anthony.

They downplayed those concerns Tuesday after their first practice, Anthony insisting the Knicks "have enough guys that can score the basketball."
