Tampa Bay first baseman James Loney and Texas outfielder Alex Rios have been named the American League's top players for the final week of the regular season.

Perhaps it's only fitting that they share the award. After all, their receptive clubs are set to battle in a tiebreaker Monday night to determine Cleveland's opponent in the wild card game.

Loney batted .435 (10-for-23) with a home run, five doubles and five runs batted in. Rios, meanwhile, hit .346 (9-for-26) with one homer, three doubles, eight RBI and three stolen bases.

Others considered for the award included Detroit's Justin Verlander and Cleveland's Jason Kipnis.
