PSG moved to the top of the Ligue 1 table on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Toulouse at the Parc des Princes.

The home side only managed to break through 41 minutes into the match when Marquinhos struck for his first league goal of the season.

Edinson Cavani then converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute to put the match out of reach for visiting Toulouse, which sees its three-game unbeaten run come to end as the club remains on nine points for the season.

PSG improves to 18 points through eight games to move into top spot, though Monaco can reclaim first place with at Reims on Sunday.

Marseille kept pace with PSG in the race for the Ligue 1 title as second-half goals from Mathieu Valbuena and Andre Ayew handed the club a 2-0 victory at Lorient.

The win brings Marseille three points clear of Lille, which was held to a 0-0 draw at Lyon on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the French top flight, Sochaux claimed its first win of the season thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Valenciennes, Dario Cvitanich notched the lone goal in Nice's 1-0 victory over Guingamp, Evian and Bordeaux split the points in a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Sports, and Bastia scored twice in the final five minutes to salvage a point from a 2-2 draw at St. Etienne.
