Diego Costa scored the lone goal at the Bernabeu on Saturday to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid.

Costa struck 11 minutes in, getting on the end of a brilliant through ball from Koke and slipping a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Koke nearly doubled Atletico's advantage in the 80th minute when he curled a left-footed effort that looked destined for the upper corner, but the shot kept rising as it came back off the crossbar.

Real Madrid's best scoring opportunity came just moments later when Sami Khedira's cross was met by an acrobatic side-volley from Alvaro Morata, but the shot was placed directly at Thibaut Courtois, who parried the ball to safety.

Atletico remains perfect through its first seven La Liga matches of the season to stay level with Barcelona on 21 points.

It was the first league loss of the season for Real Madrid, keeping the club on 16 points.

Barcelona 2, Almeria 0

Almeria, Spain - Barcelona maintained its unblemished start to the La Liga season by picking up a 2-0 victory at Almeria on Saturday.

Lionel Messi produced the opening goal in the 21st minute while Adriano sealed the win with the dagger in the 56th.

The Catalans have claimed a maximum 21 points from seven games to sit tied with Atletico Madrid atop the Spanish top flight.

Almeria has lost two successive league contests to remain on three points for the season.

Valencia 1, Rayo Vallecano 0

Valencia, Spain - Jonas scored for the second match running as his lone goal was enough to give Valencia a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Mestalla on Saturday.

Jonas scored the lone goal in Valencia's defeat of Granada last time out, and he picked up right where he left off by scoring in the 37th minute of Saturday's affair.

It proved to be all Valencia would need as the club improves to 12 points on the season on the back of its third straight league win. Rayo has lost six straight league matches to stay put on three points.

Real Sociedad 1, Sevilla 1

San Sebastian, Spain - Real Sociedad and Sevilla scored on opposite sides of halftime to split the points in a 1-1 draw at the Anoeta on Saturday.

Jairo Samperio had put Sevilla in front with an 18th-minute goal, but Antoine Griezmann answered in the 66th minute with his first goal of the campaign. Cala was sent off in the 85th minute to make for a nervy finish for visiting Sevilla, but La Real was unable to take advantage of the extra man.

Real Sociedad climbs to seven points on the season, staying one point better than Sevilla.
