Chesson Hadley carded a 4-under 66 on Friday to grab a 2-stroke lead following two rounds of the Web.com Tour Championship.
Hadley, who claimed his first career tour victory at the Rex Hospital Open earlier this year, finished 36 holes on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass at 9-under-par 131.
Hadley has already secured a PGA Tour card for the 2013-14 season by finishing inside the top 25 of the Web.com Tour's regular season money list.
"You love seeing your name up there but I honestly I could care less," said Hadley. "If it's there on Sunday, that's all that matters."
Joe Durant shot 3-under 67 to move into sole possession of second place at 7- under 133, while Aron Price (65) and Andrew Svoboda (67) shared third at 6- under.
Andrew Putnam (67), Jhonattan Vegas (69), Mark Anderson (71) and Scott Gardiner (68) occupied fifth at minus-5.
Durant, Price, Putnam and Vegas all currently sit outside the top 25 of the Web.com Tour's playoff money list and will need to continue their strong play to secure a PGA Tour card for the 2013-14 season.
First-round leader Ashley Hall tripped to a 6-over 76 during his second round to fall into a share of 35th place at 1-under 139.
Hadley started on the back nine and opened his round with back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th.
He would add gains at the 13th and 16th to make the turn at 9-under.
Hadley tripped to a bogey at the second, but bounced right back with a birdie at the third. He traded another bogey for a birdie from the sixth to remain at 9-under and closed his round with a pair of pars to claim the lead.
"Out here there are so many holes where you can make big numbers, Hadley said. "Even these short ones where you're hitting irons off the tee, if you miss the fairway you're in some nasty rough. You can make bogeys out here in a heartbeat."
Durant countered his lone bogey with four birdies to move him into second place.
Hall's disappointing round included a double bogey, six bogeys and a birdie.
NOTES: Lift, clean and place conditions were in effect on Friday for the second straight day ... The cut line fell at even-par 140, with 67 players advancing to the weekend ... Among those to miss the cut was defending champion Justin Bolli, who carded a 3-over 73 during his second round to sit a 4-over 144 ... Ten of the top 30 players on the finals money list entering this event have already earned the card through the regular season money list, meaning those players who have not secured their card can finish inside the top 37 of the playoff money list to receive their PGA card for next season.
