San Jose, CA – San Jose forward Raffi Torres will miss at least one month after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The Mercury News reported Monday that Torres sustained the injury to his right knee during a collision with Anaheim's Emerson Etem during a Friday preseason contest.
The Sharks are unsure at the moment if Torres will need surgery and are willing to wait until swelling subsides to make a decision, but nearly every kind of distress to that area of the knee has eventually required a player to go under the knife.
Torres, 31, posted two goals and six points in 11 games last season after being acquired from Phoenix, then was suspended for the duration of San Jose's postseason after delivering an illegal hit to the head of Los Angeles Kings forward Jarret Stoll during Game 1 of their second-round series.
Heading into his 12th NHL season, the Sharks signed Torres to a three-year contract back in June.
San Jose opens its 2013-14 schedule against Vancouver on Oct. 3.
