Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG, Monaco battle to draw

The two biggest clubs in Ligue 1 squared off at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, and Monaco was able to claim a 1-1 draw against PSG as the teams traded first-half goals.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had PSG in front just five minutes into the contest, but Radamel Falcao answered for Monaco in the 20th to keep his team on top of the Ligue 1 table, two points clear of both PSG and St Etienne.

Much of the build up surrounding the game centered on the huge amount of money that both clubs had spent recently, with both sides putting out star-studded lineups.

And the game came to life after just five minutes as Maxwell got down the left wing and delivered a driven cross to the front of goal, where Ibrahimovic cut in front of goalkeeper Danijel Subasic to apply the finishing touch.

But Ibrahimovic was not the only high-priced forward on the field, and Falcao had an answer to his opener in the 20th minute, diving in to steer home a low cross from Joao Moutinho.

The second half was played at a slower pace as both sides were a bit more cautious, but it was PSG that looked more likely to produce a winner.

Ibrahimovic was denied a second goal by the leg of Subasic in the 52nd minute, while Edinson Cavani had two chances in stoppage time to snatch a win.

The first was snuffed out by a lunging block from Monaco defender Andrea Raggi, while the Uruguay international sent a glancing header just wide of the near post from a Lucas cross.

Lorient came from two goals down to secure a 3-3 home draw against Bordeaux, Lyon notched its third win of the campaign by downing Nantes, 3-1, and Nice handed Valenciennes its fifth loss in six games by a score of 4-0.
