SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is active and set to play against the Indianapolis Colts two days after being arrested and jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.
Smith is a key pass rusher and sacks leader for the 49ers, and coach Jim Harbaugh said the NFL would decide how to punish the third-year pro, who turns 24 Wednesday.
Tight end Vernon Davis is inactive with a hamstring injury, meaning he won't line up against his cornerback younger brother, Vontae, for the first time in their careers.
Former Stanford tight end Coby Fleener moves into the starting lineup for Indianapolis to face his old college coach, Harbaugh, in place of Dwayne Allen. Allen is out for the year with a hip injury.
