Top seeds Agnieszka Radwanska and Maria Kirilenko were first-round winners Tuesday at the Korea Open.
The top-seeded Radwanska rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Romania's Alexandra Cadantu, while the second-seeded Kirilenko claimed a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Taiwanese qualifier Chin-Wei Chan.
Radwanska is playing for the first time since a surprising fourth-round loss to Ekaterina Makarova at the U.S. Open. The fourth-ranked native of Poland has had a solid season, reaching at least the quarterfinals in all but five of her 17 events, but she hasn't won a tournament since taking back-to-back titles to start the year in Auckland and Sydney.
Kirilenko, meanwhile, is also in action for the first time since falling in the third round at Flushing Meadows. The Russian has had success at this event, winning in 2008 after finishing as the runner-up the previous year.
A pair of seeded players were beaten Tuesday, as Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic and Germany's Andrea Petkovic went down. Korean wild card Jang Su Jeong knocked off the fourth-seeded Zakopalova, 6-3, 6-1, while former French Open champ Francesca Schiavone gutted out a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 triumph over the seventh-seeded Petkovic.
Germany's Annika Beck was almost another seeded casualty, but the eighth seed rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Japanese qualifier Risa Ozaki.
Other winners Tuesday were Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm, Spain's Estrella Cabeza Candela, Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu and Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur.
Date-Krumm came from behind for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Britain's Heather Watson to earn a second-round date with Kirilenko, while Cabeza Candela posted a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Luxembourg's Mandy Minella and will next play Radwanska.
Begu eased past Chinese qualifier Han Xinyun, 6-3, 6-4, and Jabeur topped Italy's Nastassja Burnett, 7-5, 6-0.
