Daniel Agger and Philippe Coutinho are doubtful to feature in Liverpool's match against Southampton on Saturday, the Premier League club revealed Tuesday.

Agger suffered a rib injury during a training session on Sunday as he tried to avoid a falling weight while Coutinho was substituted from the club's draw with Swansea City on Monday after suffering a shoulder injury.

"Philippe will have a wee scan," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told the Daily Mail. "As for Daniel, it's too early to say whether he will be fit for Saturday. He had a real freak incident in the gym. Just before he was coming out to train, he overstretched trying to prevent a dumbbell falling on his foot.

"He has overstretched and yanked his side. We are waiting to see if that settles down over the next few days. If it doesn't, we have got ample replacements. That is why we brought in extra players."

New signing Mamadou Sakho replaced Agger in the center of Liverpool's defense on Monday while Iago Aspas figures to fill in for Coutinho.
