Tim Thomas is back in the NHL, agreeing to a tryout deal with the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers announced the move Monday, and the two-time Vezina Trophy winner who helped Boston win the 2011 Stanley Cup is expected to practice with the club for the first time on Tuesday. Thomas sat out last season, a move that surprised many onlookers especially since he was still considered one of the league's best goalkeepers at the time.

Panthers general manager Dale Tallon says Thomas will practice with Florida for the first time on Tuesday. The Panthers were playing a preseason doubleheader against the Nashville Predators on Monday.

In parts of eight NHL seasons, Thomas has a 2.48 goals-against average, stopping just over 92 percent of the shots he has faced.
