(SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran left-hander John Danks will try to end a losing streak that's approaching historic levels on Thursday night when the Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Indians to begin a four-game weekend series at U.S. Cellular Field.
The Indians have defeated the White Sox in 14 straight meetings, one short of equaling the franchise's second-longest skein against a single opponent. Cleveland defeated the then-Philadelphia Athletics in 15 straight games between July 1943 and May 1944.
The franchise record is 17 in a row, which the Indians reeled off against the Baltimore Orioles from May to September in 1954.
Chicago has been outscored during the 14-game run, 102-45.
Danks, meanwhile, lost his lone 2013 decision against Cleveland and had a 6.30 earned run average in two starts against the Indians. In his career against them, he's 4-9 in 18 games with a 5.07 ERA.
In his first start this season, Danks allowed three runs in seven innings of a no-decision against Kansas City, a game Chicago lost, 4-3.
Danks will be opposed by Cleveland righty Danny Salazar, who also got a no- decision in his first 2014 start after a two-run effort over 5 1/3 innings against Minnesota.
The Indians won the game, 7-2.
Salazar was dominant in two outings against the White Sox in 2013, posting a 2.00 ERA across nine innings while striking out 17 batters.
On Wednesday Cleveland split a doubleheader with the San Diego Padres, winning the first game, 2-0, before falling, 2-1, in game two.
The Indians won two of three in the series and will now hit the road for seven straight games. After Chicago, Cleveland will play Detroit for three games.
In Colorado, DJ LeMahieu tied the game with an RBI double in the sixth inning and hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth, leading the Rockies to a 10-4 win over the White Sox in the finale of a three-game series.
Conor Gillaspie hit a two-run single for the White Sox, who finished 2-4 on a six-game road trip.
Cleveland was 17-2 versus the White Sox last season.
