Monaco returned to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday as Radamel Falcao's sixth-minute penalty kick was enough for a 1-0 home victory over Lorient.
Monaco has won four of its first five games with one draw to take back the top spot, while Lorient's troubles away from home continued with the club suffering its third straight road defeat this season.
The home side went on the attack from the start with Joao Moutinho and Fabinho both going close for Monaco before Falcao was brought down inside the penalty area by Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard.
Falcao picked himself up and calmly beat Audard from the spot to give his team an early lead, which Fabinho nearly doubled before halftime when he struck the post.
Monaco let up a bit after the break, but still should have added to its lead as Falcao, Moutinho and Lucas Ocampos each squandered good chances.
Nice moved past Lille on Sunday after a 2-0 victory that saw Dario Cvitanich net both goals in the first half, while Lyon was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Rennes.
