New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola won't be playing in Thursday night's matchup with the New York Jets, and may not see action for quite some time.

The Patriots' medical staff has had trouble diagnosing the severity of Amendola's groin issue, and NFL.com is reporting that the wideout could miss anywhere from two to six weeks.

Team quarterback Tom Brady is already short on offensive weapons, with running back Shane Vereen out until at least Week 11 and tight end Rob Gronkowski still recovering from offseason back surgery.

Amendola was brought in after New England let wideout Wes Welker walk in free agency. In his Patriots debut on Sunday, Amendola made 10 catches for 104 yards in a 23-21 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

The former St. Louis Ram has had difficult staying on the field in the past, however. In his previous two seasons, he's played in just 12 of a possible 32 games.
