The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks have rewarded general manager Stan Bowman with a two-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bowman's most recent contract was set to expire after the 2015-16 campaign. He is entering his 13th season with the Blackhawks and has been the architect of two Stanley Cup championship teams since taking over as the club's ninth GM on July 14, 2009.

"Stan has been an integral part of our organizational success and we are proud to reward him with a well-deserved extension," said Blackhawks CEO John McDonough in a statement. "From the amateur levels to our team in Chicago, Stan has a great system in place as we all strive for consistent excellence throughout the organization."

The Blackhawks ended a 49-year Stanley Cup drought with a championship in the spring of 2010 and captured the title again this past spring. Bowman is the first general manager to win multiple Stanley Cup titles since the advent of the salary cap in 2005.

It's been a busy offseason for Bowman. He re-signed goaltender Corey Crawford, defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson and forward Bryan Bickell to long-term deals, while also keeping head coach Joel Quenneville with a three-year extension.

At age 40, Bowman is the youngest general manager in the NHL. The son of legendary NHL coach Scotty Bowman joined the franchise in 2000 as a special assistant to the general manager and was promoted to director of hockey operations in 2005. In 2007, he took over as assistant general manager before being elevated to the top job when Dale Tallon stepped down.
