The Denver Broncos want to recoup some of star linebacker Von Miller's signing bonus in light of his six-game suspension for violating the league's drug-abuse policy, ESPN reported.

The team wants to reclaim $1.25 million of the $13.77 million signing bonus he got when he signed his four-year, $21 million rookie contract in 2011. It intends to get the money back by withholding it from his paychecks once he's reinstated, ESPN said, citing people in the NFL it didn't name.

Miller is expected to fight any such efforts.

Miller, whom Broncos boss John Elway calls the best player he's ever seen play, already stands to lose more than a-half million dollars in salary during his suspension.
